Police in Ferguson, Missouri, are investigating a shooting that occurred near the STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley High School following a large school track meet. Authorities confirmed that two juveniles were shot during the incident, and one suspect has been taken into custody.

According to the Ferguson Police Department, there is no active threat to the community. The shooting happened at the end of a track meet that began around 4 p.m. and involved about 20 participating schools, according to the Ferguson-Florissant School District. Officials said the gunfire broke out in the parking lot as students, staff, and spectators were leaving the event.

The school district stated that none of its students were involved in the shooting. In a statement, officials expressed concern over the incident occurring so close to school grounds and thanked law enforcement for their quick response. They also reassured families that the safety of students and staff remains their top priority.

Authorities have not yet determined what led to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. Both victims were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment and underwent surgery. Tragically, police later confirmed that one of the juveniles has died from their injuries. The second victim remains in critical condition.

The incident has left the community shaken, particularly as many students and families witnessed or were nearby when the shooting occurred.
