One Dead In Roxbury I-80 Crash; Major Highway Closure Disrupts Traffic.

Roxbury Township, New Jersey — A fatal crash on Interstate 80 early Wednesday morning forced the closure of multiple lanes and brought traffic to a standstill along the westbound lanes.

According to New Jersey State Police, the accident occurred around 4:19 a.m. near milepost 31.7 and involved a Jeep SUV and a tractor-trailer. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Jeep, a 52-year-old man from Andover, New Jersey, sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Jeep driver lost control of his vehicle, veering off the roadway before crossing into oncoming westbound traffic. The vehicle was subsequently struck by an approaching Freightliner truck, resulting in the driver’s death. No other injuries were reported.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, closing all westbound lanes east of Exit 30 (Howard Boulevard) to secure the area and conduct a thorough investigation. The closure caused major delays for morning commuters traveling through Morris County, prompting officials to advise drivers to seek alternate routes.

The local community has expressed shock and grief over the sudden loss of the Andover resident. Authorities emphasized that the crash remains under active investigation as they work to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the collision.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by high-speed travel on heavily trafficked corridors such as Interstate 80, which has seen multiple serious accidents in recent months.

State police confirmed that cleanup operations and investigative efforts were ongoing throughout the morning, and further updates are expected as the investigation continues. Residents and commuters are urged to remain vigilant and follow traffic advisories while traveling along the affected sections of I-80.
